Go-ahead given for George Hotel scheme
June 8, 2023

The George HotelA Kirklees Council Strategic Planning Committee on Thursday June 8 gave the go-ahead to a scheme for the £20 million remodelling and refurbishment of the George Hotel in St George's Square in Huddersfield.

Kirklees Council submitted a planning application to its planning department in January for the development of the hotel in St George's Square, including partial demolition of the listed building as part of its extension and refurbishment to create a 91-room hotel.

While the main part of the hotel facing St George's Square would be mostly unchanged, an extension would be created across the rear of the hotel, facing the station car parks. There would also be extension to the height and length of the existing building along John William Street.

Kirklees Council have determined that Radisson Hotel Group will be their preferred operator and manager of the hotel, which will be run under their Radisson Red brand.
