GolcarTown End, GolcarGolcarGolcar war memorialGolcar is an attractive village about three miles west of Huddersfield noted for its tiers of weaver's cottages on the hillside above the Colne Valley.

The village is the location of the Colne Valley Museum which tells the story of the early textile industry and life in the Colne Valley.

The village holds an annual community get-together, Golcar Lily Day, each May (May 13 in 2023). The big event is supported by a host of fundaraising events through the year.

Most of the village's shops are around Town End and include a Co-operative store, gift shop, charity shop, hairdressers and beauty shop, butchers and patesserie but there are also other small shops and businesses scattered around the village.

Colne Valley Museum, GolcarCliffe Ash, Golcar

Colne Valley Museum is at Cliffe Ash. It tells the story of the early textile industry and life in the Colne Valley from a row of traditional weavers' cottages, featuring a loom chamber, spinning and cropping rooms. The museum also has a period living room and wash kitchen of around 1850 and a clog-makers' workshop. The museum, run by volunteers, often has demonstrations of the crafts. The museum also has an exhibition room, children's corner, arranges school and group visits and has occasional themed events. The museum is generally open to the public on Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday afternoons. Details can be found on its website.

Golcar can be reached by minor roads about one mile from the A62 Manchester Road at Milnsbridge which is signposted towards Oldham from the Huddersfield ring road.

Golcar can also be reached by hilly and narrow minor roads about one mile from the A640 New Hey Road near Outlane, but these do not provide access for large vehicles.
