Grange Moor
The village grew around the Shuttle Eye Colliery, which operated in the village between 1862 and 1973. The mine's site has since been replaced by an industrial estate which is the home of several major businesses and includes the head office of a large clothing retail chain.
The village has an active Community Association organising events at local venues.
