Kirkheaton

 Map
Kirkheaton Shop Lane, Kirkheaton Church Lane, Kirkheaton Kirkheaton Kirkheaton is a village just under 3 miles east-north-east of Huddersfield town centre (3.2 miles by road).

The village, sometimes known locally as Yetton, is mostly residential but has some light industry, including an engineering company.

The village used to have a textile mill. It was owned by Broadhead and Graves from 1909, though a mill had been there more than 30 years earlier. Most recently it was the home of Huddersfield Fine Worsteds. The mill at Shop Lane was demolished in 2009, the relocated company having ceased manufacturing there in 2004.

The village has an active community group Yetton Together, which organises regular activities and a village forum.

Kirkheaton is the location of the Yetton Rant, an old fun fair held since the 1890s. Since 2009, the event has become an occasional rather than an annual fair.

Kirkheaton also had some of the earliest pioneers of co-operative shopping. The Kirkheaton Co-operative Society was set up in 1834, 10 years before the well-known Rochdale Pioneers, but even then was probably not the first such society in the Huddersfield area.
