The village is a small farming community, although there has been an increase in other housing in recent years.
It has a pub, chapel and cricket field and used to have its own post office, although this is now closed.

Lower Cumberworth Methodist Church and Community Rooms are between Cumberworth Lane and Top Road. The church was built in 1851 as the Primitive Methodist Chapel and enlarged in 1877.
Cumberworth Community Association was formed in 1977 and serves Lower Cumberworth and the village of Upper Cumberworth a mile away.
