Netherton
Netherton was initially quite a compact village, but saw a huge expansion in the later years of the 20th century with the building of new houses across what had previously been farmland at Netherton Moor.
Netherton is situated on the ridge between the broad valley of the Hall Dike, which flows into Mag Brook, and the narrow deep wooded valley of Dean Clough, which widens to become Big Valley before meeting the Holme Valley.
A former railway tunnel linking the two valleys passes beneath Netherton. The village had a station at Station Lane which was part of the 3.5 mile railway branch line opened in 1869 by the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Company. It linked Meltham to the Huddersfield-Penistone-Sheffield line at Lockwood. The line closed to passengers in 1949, but freight traffic, principally tractors from the Meltham Mills David Brown factory, kept the line open until 1965.
Netherton, Huddersfield, should not be confused with Netherton nine miles east of Huddersfield in the Wakefield metropolitan district.

Most of these are along Meltham Road where, in addition to Londis and Co-operative convenience stores, the shops include tailoring and bridal shops, florist, nail and beauty and hair salons, optometrist, picture framing business, charity shop and funeral home. Out of the village centre, there is a farm shop at Netherton Moor Road.
