Wellhouse
The village was an early to mid-19th century hillside weaving settlement and has been designated a conservation area since 1981 due its special architectural and historical interest. It is mostly made up of 18th and 19th century weaver's cottages and late 19th century houses.
Wellhouse Junior and Infant School is the main focal point of the small local community. The school was originally the Wellhouse United Methodist School, built in 1881.
Before the school, the village had the Wellhouse Methodist New Connexion Church, which was formally opened in Upper Wellhouse Road in 1845. The church building was demolished in 1966, but the chapel congregation continued to use its Sunday School building until this was closed around 1995.
