Queen's Baton Relay visits Huddersfield July 12, 2022

The Queen's Baton in St George's SquareWith less than three weeks to go to the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, the Queen's Baton Relay was in Huddersfield on Tuesday July 12.

The baton heralding the start of the Games had made an epic journey around the 72 Commonwealth nations and was spending three days in Yorkshire having begun its final 25-day journey around England at the Eden Project in Cornwall on July 4.

The baton was in Huddersfield after starting the day in Sheffield and Rotherham in South Yorkshire.

The Queen's Baton arrives in Greenhead ParkThe baton set off from St George's Square to be welcomed in Greenhead Park. In the park, an event inspired by Commonwealth nations and cultures featured music, dance and art.

From Huddersfield the baton was taken to Bradford, Saltaire and Leeds and on Wednesday July 13 headed from Hull across the East Riding to York and then along the Yorkshire coast from Scarborough towards Whitby.

After venturing further north the baton was heading to the West Midlands for its final 11 days before arriving at the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham on July 28 where the message from The Queen carried in the baton was to be read.
