Plan to upgrade Huddersfield Bus Station August 23, 2021

The Upperhead Row entrance of Huddersfield Bus Station where a grass-topped canopy extension with bicycle racks is plannedWest Yorkshire Combined Authority is holding a public consultation on plans for an extensive refurbishment of Huddersfield Bus Station.

The authority, working with Kirklees Council, is looking for feedback on the initial design of the scheme for the bus station, which has more than 37,000 users a day, according to WYCA figures for 2018-19.

As well as an upgraded interior, major new features will be an elaborate grass-topped canopy extension extending above the main entrance along Upperhead Row into the Macaulay Street pedestrian area. As planned, much of the space beneath the canopy would be used for keeping new bicycle racks dry although there would also be some extra seating.

At the Henry Street end of the bus station a big funnel entrance would be created to corridor into the bus station.
