Plans submitted for George Hotel February 20, 2023

The George Hotel in St Georges Square before it was clad in scaffolding and wrapsKirklees Council has submitted a planning application to its planning department for the development of the George Hotel in St George's Square in Huddersfield, including partial demolition as part of its extension and refurbishment.

The £20m plan is to develop the hotel to have more than 90 rooms, a bar, restaurant, gym and conference room. An extension would be created across the rear of the hotel, facing the station car parks, there would also be extension to the height and length of the existing building along John William Street.

Public comments on the plans could be made to the planning department up to February 20.

Kirklees Council are the applicants for the plan and are working with a development partner and architects in the refurbishment of the hotel. However, the council have determined that Radisson Hotel Group will be their preferred operator and manager of the hotel.
