The new purpose-built department will serve the people of Huddersfield and surrounding area.

A new Accident and Emergency department is now situated at the South Drive of the hospital, off Acre Street, at the opposite side of the infirmary from the previous department which was next to the North Drive.

The new department is nearly double the size of the existing unit, which dates from the Huddersfield Royal Infirmary’s move to the Lindley site in the 1960s. The new unit has a larger resuscitation area, treatment rooms, two new x-ray rooms and links via a corridor to other facilities, operating theatres, scanning rooms and wards in the main hospital. There is a new children’s waiting area and a family bereavement suite. Outside there is parking for ambulances and cars.
