New trains arrive for Northern services August 4, 2019
The electric powered version of the train (Class 331) was introduced last month on services between Leeds and Doncaster, but now there also diesel versions (Class 195) of the train operating on lines that have not been electrified. Two three-car diesel units are pictured in the siding in Huddersfield alongside one of the bus-based Pacer trains of the 1980s which are due to be retired by the end of the year.
The new trains are being built in Spain and Wales by Spanish company CAF and have streamlined non-connecting fronts and longer carriages with some table seats. They also have wifi, air conditioning and three-pin electric sockets, accessible wheelchair spaces, more modern toilets, information screens and clearly audible announcements.
