Pennine Way celebrates 60 years April 25, 2025
The Pennine Way is a 268mile (431km) walking route across wild landscapes in the hills and mountains of The Pennines from Edale in Derbyshire to Kirk Yetholm in the Scottish borders. Well over 100 miles of that route is in Yorkshire.
Several miles are in the Huddersfield area from West Yorkshire's highest point at Black Hill (582m), across Wessenden Head Moor and past Wessenden Reservoir, climbing Blakely Clough to Black Moss Reservoir and Standege, then crossing recently fire-damaged moorland to Haigh Gutter Moss on the way to White Hill (466m).
Some of the Pennine Way route crosses the National Trust Marsden Moor estate and the National Trust organised one of its regular guided walks to celebrate the anniversary. The 10-mile route from Marsden included a section of the Pennine Way.
