Australia win Semi-Final place at match in Huddersfield November 4, 2022
Huddersfield is the birthplace of Rugby League. The George Hotel in St George's Square is where, on August 29 in 1895, 21 clubs voted to break away from the Rugby Football Union and set up the Northern Rugby Football Union, which became the Rugby Football League in 1922. The closed hotel is currently undergoing refurbishment.
Yorkshire stadiums are playing a big part in the Rugby League World Cup 2021, postponed by the Covid pandemic last year. There are games in Doncaster, Hull, Leeds, Middlesbrough, Sheffield, York and Friday's game in Huddersfield. The women's and wheelchair competitions got under way last week with matches at Headingley, York and Sheffield.
The competition continues through to the Women's and Men's Finals at Old Trafford in Manchester on Saturday November 19, a day after the Wheelchair Final at Manchester Central. Both Women's Semi-Finals will be at the LNER Community Stadium in York and both Wheelchair Semi-Finals will be at EIS Sheffield.
