After four managerial changes in relegation season, Huddersfield Town now appoint Duff as head coach
May 13, 2024
Belfast-born Duff has previously taken charge at Cheltenham Town, Barnsley and Swansea City after a playing career with Cheltenham Town and Burnley.
After being appointed head coach of Barnsley in 2022, he won three Manager of the Month awards as he led the team to the League One play-off final, where they were narrowly beaten by Sheffield Wednesday in extra-time. Duff led 32 victories in 58 matches at Barnsley. In June 2023 he moved up to Championship club Swansea City but parted from the Welsh side in December.
On Friday May 10 Huddersfield Town confirmed they had agreed to the departure of André Breitenreiter by mutual consent.
The German head coach oversaw 13 Championship games since joining the Club in February, winning twice and seeing the team relegated to League One next season.
It was a season of managerial turmoil for Town with four in charge since their Championship season began last August. The season started with veteran Neil Warnock, who saved the club from relegation the previous season. When he left in September he was replaced by Darren Moore, who led nearly half of Town’s games this season before he was relieved of his duties at the end of January. Huddersfield Town Academy Manager Jon Worthington stepped up for four games, including two of just nine wins during the season, before the club decided to appoint André Breitenreiter as head coach.
Michael Duff has been offered a three-year contract and will soon be preparing the Terriers for their first season in League One in 13 years, following their relegation from the Championship.
