Trains towards Manchester

Marsden stationIn the May 2025 - December 2025 timetable there are normally at least five daytime trains per hour between Huddersfield and a Manchester station although special timetables during periods of work on the Trans-Pennine Upgrade can sometimes reduce that frequency.

At least one train per hour (two at peak times) is a stopping service between Huddersfield and Manchester Piccadilly calling at Slaithwaite, Marsden, Greenfield, Mossley and Stalybridge.

The regular service of stopping trains to and from Manchester Piccadilly generally runs every hour and every day, including Sundays.

Express trains run through Slaithwaite and Marsden etc without stopping mostly bound for Manchester Victoria station with destinations of Liverpool or Manchester Airport. Trains bound for the Airport call at Manchester Oxford Road and Manchester Piccadilly after Manchester Victoria. Some of the Liverpool trains call at Stalybridge before Manchester Victoria.

Coming from Manchester Piccadilly the stopping trains continue beyond Huddersfield to Deighton, Mirfield, Wakefield Kirkgate, Normanton, Castleford and York. See Wakefield connection for details.

The hourly stopping pattern is increased at peak times to half-hourly. These additional trains are usually services operating only between Manchester Piccadilly and Huddersfield.

Heading east there will usually be the need to a change train at Huddersfield if travelling from Marsden or Slaithwaite to Dewsbury, Leeds or destinations beyond which include Newcastle, Redcar or Saltburn, Scarborough and Hull. If on the regular hourly service at Marsden or Slaithwaite this will generally be a 6-minute wait at Huddersfield for the express to Dewsbury or Leeds or a 9-minute wait if travelling to Ravensthorpe, Batley, Morley or Cottingley.

Services at stations along this route will be severely disrupted during periods when Huddersfield station is closed for engineering work and this will include a variation to the timetable through September 2025.

PLEASE NOTE: This travel study is provided for basic guidance and principally indicates the general daytime pattern of Monday to Saturday trains. We recommend checking your route on journey planners before travelling, particularly in the evening and on Sundays or when services are disrupted by engineering work or strikes.
