Huddersfield Line Trains towards Manchester
Trains towards Manchester

In the December 2025 - May 2026 timetable there are normally at least five daytime trains per hour between Huddersfield and a Manchester station although special timetables during periods of work on the Trans-Pennine Upgrade can sometimes reduce that frequency.
At least one train per hour (two at peak times) is a stopping service between Huddersfield and Manchester Piccadilly.
The regular service of stopping trains to and from Manchester Piccadilly generally runs every hour and every day, including Sundays. The service is the York - Castleford - Normanton - Wakefield Kirkgate - Mirfield - * - Huddersfield -
* The service would normally stop at Deighton but the station is now closed, with bus replacements to and from Huddersfield, until 2027.
The hourly stopping pattern is increased at peak times to half-hourly. These additional trains are usually a Leeds - Huddersfield non-stop service then the stations (as above) between Huddersfield and Manchester Piccadilly.
Trains to Manchester Airport are often disrupted by engineering on other parts of the TransPennine Route Upgrade where additional time on diversion routes results in timetables of route curtailment at Manchester Victoria. At these times a change of train in Manchester is needed, usually most easily achieved from a train instead to Manchester Piccadilly or a bus replacement service usually operated at such times from Huddersfield.
Heading east there will usually be the need to change train at Huddersfield if travelling from Marsden or Slaithwaite to Dewsbury, to Leeds (except when using the peak-time additional services) or to destinations beyond Leeds which include Newcastle, Redcar or Saltburn, Scarborough and Hull.
If on the York via Wakefield regular hourly service from Marsden or Slaithwaite this will generally be a 5-minute wait at Huddersfield for the express to Dewsbury or Leeds.
The stopping train service between Huddersfield and Leeds is mostly not operating pending the completion of new platforms at Huddersfield. It will be necessary to change at Mirfield if travelling to Batley, Morley or Cottingley with generally around 11 minutes to wait at Mirfield, although a little longer at times. Deighton and Ravensthorpe stations are temporarily closed with buses from Huddersfield to Deighton and Dewsbury to Ravensthorpe.
Services at stations on the line between Huddersfield and Stalybridge are likely to be without service other than bus replacements from stops in Manchester Road during periods of closure of Huddersfield station during the Trans-Pennine Route Upgrade.
