Helme
The area is an agricultural community with 18th and 19th century stone weavers cottages.
The school and attractive church were Victorian additions, the latter built by the Brook family in 1859 in memory of Charles John Brook, of Thick Hollins. The church has featured in episodes of the comedy series "Last of the Summer Wine" during its many years on TV.
Nearby is Helme Hall, a manor house developed in the late 19th century for a mill owner, which is now a nursing home.
