Taylor Hill
The area grew up around its textile mill built on the hilltop just above an early route to the Holme Valley over the hill between Lockwood and Berry Brow.
The area used to have a chapel, which has since been converted to other uses.
A short distance from the mill, the road leading towards Newsome is Blue Bell Hill, where there was once a Blue Bell Hill post office. Blue Bell Hill leads into Close Hill Lane where a house along the road served as Taylor Hill Working Men's Club for many years with later periods as The Bluebell and The Blue Bell pub, which closed around 2008. A brief reopening of a Working Men's Club in 2010 was its last use as licensed premises.
Bankfield Park was a mansion house with grounds which were used for an estate of private housing which began to be developed in the 1970s. The original large house remained for some years within the estate, being used as student accommodation before it was demolished.
A more recent development at Taylor Hill is the Taylor Hill Centre of Kirklees College. The eco-friendly centre with turf roof, wind turbine and solar wall was opened in 2004 and is a centre for the college's animal care and countryside management courses.
