Berry Brow

Berry Brow and Castle HillHolme Park Court and Bishop's Court, Berry BrowWaingate, Berry BrowDeadmanstone, Berry BrowBerry Brow is a village district of Huddersfield on the eastern side of the Holme Valley just over two miles south of the town centre.

The village was substantially changed in the mid-1960s when characterful rows of terraced cottages on the hillside near Waingate were demolished as part of a council scheme to create 'the village of the future', largely consisting of two 17-storey blocks of flats on the valley floor, two six-storey blocks at the top of the hill, together with rows of square-shaped bungalows. After around 20 years of use, the tall blocks, Holme Park Court and Bishop's Court, had to be stripped of asbestos.

Whilst Berry Brow had earlier boasted many more shops it did continue to have a post office, bakery, and fish and chip shop beyond its major changes, but sadly these have all disappeared in recent years, leaving little but hairdressers, a chiropodist's shop and a couple of takeaways. A convenience store has however reopened.
Bridge Street, Berry Brow
Berry Brow's station on the Penistone Line between Huddersfield and Sheffield was reopened in 1989 as a single platform with shelter off Birch Road, nearer to the new development than the previous station at Station Lane. A garage and car and van sales business occupies the former goods yard at Station Lane.

The village has a distinctive rocky outcrop, now largely hidden by trees, at Deadmanstone.
