Fartown

The district offers a mixture of housing, shops and small commercial premises.
Fartown was from 1878 to 1992 the home of the Huddersfield Rugby League team. The team, now known as the Huddersfield Giants, is now based at Huddersfield's stadium, but was previously locally referred to as "Fartown". The ground, off Spaines Road, was used for three Rugby League Challenge Cup final matches in 1908 and 1910, the latter involving a replay. A cricket ground there was also sometimes used for Yorkshire county cricket matches.
While the main railway line still passes to the east of Fartown, there was also a branch line passing through the area which linked to sidings at Hillhouse and the town's gas works. Cuttings along this line were filled in the late 1960s during construction of the Huddersfield ring road and the route now forms part of the Birkby to Bradley greenway cycle route.
