Marsh
The area is centred on the busy A640 Westbourne Road leading to the M62 motorway.
Marsh is today one of the busiest local shopping areas outside Huddersfield town centre together with nearby housing stretching into neighbouring districts including Paddock and Lindley. A few old woollen mill buildings have been put to new light industrial uses.
Marsh only started to develop as a residential area in the mid 19th century. Before that it was only a tiny hamlet with its Marsh House Inn, a small number of large houses and a few rows of cottages which would be seen across the fields from the New Hey Road, as would the developing woollen mills at Marsh Mill and Luck Lane End Mill. Marsh Quarry was a large sandstone quarry in the direction of Gledholt.
